A cuppa with… Sarah Marsden

Meet Sarah. Nuush member who can legally anaesthetise you and would win gold if tea drinking was an olympic sport.

Occupation?

Anaesthetics doctor.

What county do you live in?

West Yorkshire.

What made you choose Nuush?

I had been looking at some support to help me lose weight whilst still fuelling the exercise I do properly, and saw fitnaturally mentioned on social media. After a little peruse of the website and a sample plan I was sold!

How long have you been with Nuush and had you tried other diets?

Three years now. I’d not tried any other specific diets, just calorie counting through MyFitnessPal and a couple of dabbles with the Special K diet.

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by ordinary people with busy lives achieving amazing things, particularly in sport. I’m lucky enough to know some incredible sportswomen and men who inspire me to challenge myself.

What’s your desert island food?

It’s got to be bread. Any type! If I could live off things that go in the toaster, I would.

What are the joys and benefits of Nuush?

I love that nothing is restricted or obsessively counted, it’s more about learning a balanced, kind way of eating and looking after yourself, that works realistically around life. There is joy in saying goodbye for good to low-fat and ‘diet’ foods too – instead you have proper butter, whole milk… I could go on! I’ve also found myself move to eating a mostly vegetarian diet, something which I never thought would happen but has been really easy with the delicious recipes on the Nutrition for Everyone plan.

One piece of advice for anyone living with you?

If you ever lose me, follow the trail of empty tea mugs!

Most interesting thing you’ve learnt this week?

I’ve been learning all about time-restricted eating after buying Rangan Chatterjee’s Four Pillar Plan book, and it’s fascinating! [Nuush note: We’re on board with this way of eating but we think the term ‘time-restricted eating’ sounds too negative because it’s not really a restriction. We think a nicer and more accurate why of saying it is simply ‘timed eating’.]

What’s your food nemesis?

Hard to choose just one as I am a general snack monster, but biscuits would probably be the biggest one, especially chocolate digestives or Hobnobs. I can quite happily eat half a packet with a brew – I’ve had to stop buying them.

Favourite Nuush meal?

Oh god, there are so many. Lentil bolognese, veggie enchiladas and crustless quiche are three of my favourites!

Favourite form of activity?

Tough to choose between running and cycling, but I’d probably say running!

What’s one of your family’s speciality dishes?

My mum makes an incredible fish pie – I’m still learning that one!

One big thing you’ve learnt from Nuush?

That I don’t need to eat carbs every meal just because I’m active. Sadly!

Last thing you ate?

The cheddar crunch sandwich off the fitnat plan with a bowl of salad and some crisps.

What one piece of health advice would you give people?

Find a way to get active that you really enjoy doing – you’re far more likely to keep doing it!

Tell us something about yourself that people will find riveting?

I once poured Jamie Oliver a pint and brought him ketchup to put on his fish and chips. Before becoming a doctor, that is!
