A cuppa with… Beckie Ings

Meet Beckie. Nuush member who can’t be trusted around clotted cream and once made a goat’s cheese salad for Amanda Mealing from Casualty!


Nursery assistant, I look after children aged 2–4 years.

What county (or country!) do you live in?

I live in beautiful Pembrokeshire, in a little village not that far from the sea.

What made you choose Nuush?

I had got to a point where I was really struggling with food, guilt, pressure and a dislike of my body. I’d had enough of dieting and the fat-free, sugar-free life. I knew there had to be a better way and just desperately wanted to be able to cook and eat like a normal healthy person without obsessing over calories, syns and points! I came across Nuush on Instagram and followed Sally for a while but felt nervous of joining and piling on weight. But I finally signed up and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done.

How long have you been with Nuush and had you tried other diets?

Only a month with Nuush so far but I’m completely hooked. I have done WW, SlimFast, MyFitnessPal and actually lost 6½ stone with Slimming World in just over a year. That was 4 years ago and I’ve managed to keep the weight off. But the Slimming World restrictions were starting to send me off in the other direction and I was finding it really hard and not feeling very good eating fat-free, sugar-free, artificial rubbish all the time and my bloating was out of control.

What inspires you?

People who do extreme things like Ironman. They must be super human!

What’s your desert island food?

Oh god there are so many! But I’ll say a cheese board, with lots of fresh crusty bread, salted butter and chilli jam. Followed by a massive piece of red velvet cake and clotted cream. 😂

What are the joys and benefits of Nuush?

I really enjoy being part of The Hive, it’s full of advice, support, inspiration and great information. The recipes are gorgeous and easy. The biggest benefit for me is how already my relationship with food has improved. I’m so much happier now I’m not obsessing over each meal and worrying about the calorie content. I can just cook and eat without thinking about it and just knowing I’m eating well is great. And it’s also made me very aware of how rubbish you feel after eating heavily processed foods. My bloating has absolutely disappeared since giving up rubbish bread.

One piece of advice for anyone living with you?

Leave the Greek yogurt alone, it’s mine! And tea on tap please.

Most interesting thing you’ve learnt this week?

Just how bad for you processed bread is, that was a real eye opener.

What’s your food nemesis?

Clotted cream and cake. If it’s in the house I can’t leave it alone until it’s gone.

Favourite Nuush meal?

Spicy prawn pizza, naan pizza for a really quick dinner, cheddar and apple crunch sandwich, and porridge with apples and pecans.

Favourite form of activity?

Walking. I used to run and have done half marathons but since rupturing my achilles I keep to walking. I walk 4 miles a day down the country lanes with Ruby my labradoodle.

What’s one of your family’s speciality dishes?

Chicken and chorizo baked rice from Olive magazine. Gorgeous.

One big thing you’ve learnt from Nuush?

That you do not have to or need to count calories. That has been a big deal for me and I was worried about losing control by letting Sally have control over meal plans. But it’s done the complete opposite, all I have to do is choose my meals, shop, cook and eat – no stress at all.

Last thing you ate?

Feta, lentil and cherry tomato salad!

What one piece of health advice would you give people?

Find an activity you really enjoy and look forward to. You really don’t need to be doing HIIT 5 times a week! Get out in the fresh air – rain or shine – and enjoy it. It’s unbelievable how a lovely walk can boost your mood.

Tell us something about yourself that people will find riveting?

I used to be a cook at a National Trust property and I once made a goat’s cheese salad for Amanda Mealing from Casualty!
